Here are a few good reasons to opt for bare root trees and shrubs:
- Environmentally friendly – Without a pot or soil, bare root plants create no waste, plus they’re lighter weight, so less gas is required to transport them from farm to nursery.
- Cost-efficient – Since transport costs are lower, bare root plants typically cost less. Plus, all February, Molbak’s Rewards members save 30% on bare root trees and shrubs.
- Easier to handle – The lack of soils makes bare root trees much easier to lift and maneuver. A definite back saver.
- Quicker to adapt – Because there is no soil around the root ball, bare root trees and shrubs have no trouble interfacing with the soil in your garden.

- If you’re not ready to plant immediately, temporarily cover the roots with bark or soil to keep them damp and protected.
- When you’re ready to plant, dig a hole, add compost if needed, surround the roots with soil.
- Stake the tree so that it’s supported but is still allowed some movement.
- Enjoy the fact that you have a lovely tree or shrub, no back pain, and no empty pot to recycle.
