Birdseed Biscuit

Give your feathered friends a treat: A homemade birdseed biscuit to lure them to your garden, and keep them flying high through the winter months.

What you’ll need:

  • ¾ cup birdseed
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • Water
  • Cookie cutter
  • Oil
  • Foil
  • Cookie sheet
  • Straw
  • Ribbon

Instructions

Recipe makes two 3-inch biscuits or a single 4-inch biscuit.

  1. Mix together birdseed, flour, and two tablespoons water.

  2. Spray or wipe a cookie cutter with oil and place it on a foil-covered cookie sheet.

  3. Pack the mixture into the cutter, inserting half a straw near the top to create a hole for hanging. (Another way to hang your biscuit is to wind wire or string around it like a gift.)

  4. Bake the biscuit (with the straw) at 170º F until the biscuit is hard, about one hour. Let cool.

  5. Remove straw, and thread a ribbon through the hole.

  6. Hang your biscuit(s) outside in a sheltered spot, and watch as birds flock to your garden for a winter snack.
