Evergreen Holiday Swag

Don’t let those lovely extra evergreen branches go to waste. Gather them up with a ribbon, and create a beautiful swag to hang on your front door and welcome the season.

What you’ll need:

• Mixed evergreen branches
• Berry stems
• Pinecones and/or ornaments
• 2 yards of festive ribbon
• Wire and wire cutters
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Arrange mixed evergreen branches, either by laying them out on a table or grouping them together in your hand. Adjust the shape as you go to achieve either a long, vertical look, or a shorter pyramid shape.
2. Align berry stem tops with the tops of the greens. At the point where the greens begin to flare out, wrap all the stems together tightly with wire.
3. Trim the tops of the branches two inches above the wire.
4. Place pinecones and ornaments in a staggered design of your choice. Wrap a piece of wire around the bottom of each pinecone (and through the loop of each ornament) and secure to the swag. Tip: Keep wires hidden by attaching your wires to the swag beneath overlapping branches.
5. Cover wire at the top of your swag with a two-yard length of ribbon. Wrap from back to front, knot and then tie a bow. Trim ribbon ends and allow tails to drape over front of swag.
6. Run a small length of wire through branches in back to form a hanger.
7. Deck the halls with your beautiful homemade holiday swag.
