About Molbak's

A Brief History

The seed was planted in 1956. My parents, Egon and Laina Molbak arrived in rural Woodinville from Denmark. They brought with them a passion for gardening, and a dream of creating their own business that would take root and grow, and could be passed down from generation to generation.

Our Mission

Environmental responsibility

We feel strongly about our responsibility to care for our planet and community. We recycle, reuse and repurpose, support local small businesses and purchase locally made products. We source organically grown plants whenever possible and strive for all of our plants and products to be earth and pollinator friendly.

A sense of discovery

We aren’t a big box store. The people who help you when you walk through our doors are here because they are deeply passionate about plants and about working here. We have amazing products, but we excel at our product knowledge. We want you to succeed.

Fostering community

Molbak’s is a family owned business and we care deeply about our neighbors. From our ongoing commitment to employee satisfaction to participating in Woodinville planning meetings, we strive to build lasting relationships that express our commitment to honoring what is great about being from a town that used to be a small farming community.

Giving back has been a part of the Molbak’s tradition since our formation.

Our Story

Step into a place of rejuvenation, inspiration and the best the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Some people call us a nursery, others a home and gift store—we say YES to both. An experience like no other, Molbak’s has been a family-owned and run business in Woodinville for more than 60 years. Stop in to pick up supplies or spend the day exploring. Either way, we welcome you!

Community Giving Guidelines

I. Molbak’s Nature Education Grant Program at Northshore Schools Foundation

The Molbak’s Nature Education Grant program provides monetary grants to support hands-on nature education programs and projects that result in positive impacts to the environment of a school or community, an increase in appreciation of the positive effects of plants and gardens, and/or an increase in students’ appreciation for healthy foods and nutrition. The goal is to empower students by providing hands-on environmental stewardship opportunities. Teachers, staff, parents and school organizations may apply for a grant for as little as $50 and up to $1000.

Examples of grants include:

  • Garden supplies and instructional supplies for new or existing edible gardens to increase students’ appreciation for healthy foods and nutrition.
  • Bees and equipment to safely set up, maintain and observe on-site bee sanctuaries.
  • Other environmental stewardship projects to inspire youth and communities to become agents of change for their environment to solve real world problems.

All requests to fund programs at Northshore School District schools should be made through the Molbak’s Nature Education Fund at the Northshore Schools Foundation(NSF).

II. Community organization donation requests

Molbak’s is pleased and proud to support local organizations in their fundraising efforts whenever possible. To concentrate our efforts and ensure fairness to organizations requesting donations, we have established the following guidelines:

  • Programs requesting donations should align with our core values and focus on child well-being or education; horticultural efforts that promote gardening in our community; or connect people to nature.
  • Please submit your request 30-60 days in advance of the event or project date to allow us time to consider your request.
  • Organizations requesting a charitable donation must be tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Limit one request per organization, per year, please.
  • Donations will be given in the form of a Molbak’s gift certificate or an in-kind donation. No cash donations will be made.
  • Submissions are evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis according to the funds available for that year. Once funding is depleted you will have to wait until the following year to apply.

Unfortunately, the sheer volume of requests precludes us from responding favorably to all. Additionally, we are not able to reply with the status of each request or to accept telephone or in-person requests.

If we are able to accommodate your request, you will be notified by email. If you have not been notified by your deadline date, regrettably, we were not able to support your cause at this time.

If your organization would like to be considered, please complete and submit the following:
