Heat Wave New Store Hours

Home Heat Wave New Store Hours

Due to the excessive heat watch we will be
    altering store closing hours.

    Revised Hours:

Thursday, August 12 and Friday, August 13
    8am to 3pm.

Curbside pickup available during open store hours.

3 ways to keep your garden happy during the anticipated heat wave

    1. Water wisely

    • Early morning is best. Late evening is a good alternative. Avoid watering during the heat of midday.
    • Try to keep the water on the soil, not on your plants. Moisture on plants during in hot sun can burn leaves and cause damage.
    • Resist the temptation to water wilting plants during the day. Over-watering can be as damaging as too much sun and heat.
Photo showing an attractive back garden pictured on a sunny day in late spring. The outdoor space features an extensive area of wooden decking, with a garden table and bench forming a centrepiece, with a cream parasol. Maples, bamboo and flowering azaleas complete the Japanese style garden scene.

    2. Made in the shade

    • Give your plants some shade! Using shade cloth, patio umbrellas or even a pop-up canopy with a bed sheet can give your plants some midday relief. Avoid laying shade cloth directly on plants; use hoops or stakes to keep the air circulating and the cloth off plants.
Mulching bed around the house and bushes, wheelbarrel along with a showel.

    3. Protect the soil

    • It’s a great time to add some mulch. It will help buffer against the temp extremes and keep the soil temps consistent. We also recommend postponing fertilizing until the heat cools down, doing so in extreme heat can burn plants.
