Tree Decorating Tips from the Professionals

    By Molbak's Garden + Home | Uncategorized | 0 comment | 8 November, 2021 | 7

Decked-out halls and ornate trees are a tremendous piece of the holiday traditions here at Molbak’s. Our visual merchandising team starts prepping for the season over nine months in advance. They have years of experience in fluffing, designing, and decorating these trees to perfection. We asked them to share some tips so you can create that WOW factor at home.

    1. Pick a theme.

It’s easy to go to the store and pick one of everything you like, but the finished look might come off jumbled and sporadic. Keeping with a singular theme will create a cohesive look that is polished and clean. Create a mood board or find a color palette that you can stick to

    2. Add specialty lights for extra sparkle

Twinkle lights create a calming ambiance and add a little extra magic. If your tree is pre-lit, you can add additional lights by attaching a power strip to the trunk with zip ties. Attach the strip to the center of the tree so you can wrap strands in both directions, upward and downward.

    3. Cover your mechanics while adding dynamic texture.

Use faux floral stems and garland to fill in empty spaces and keep power strips out of sight. Stick to your color palette and use complimentary textures such as eucalyptus or beaded garland. A minimalist look can be achieved by keeping some negative space. A maximalist look utilizes a full spectrum of texture and depth.

    4. Repeat ornaments for a cohesive look.

Use repetition to create balance. A collection of the same ornament around the tree will draw the eye from bottom to treetop. Hang some ornaments towards the trunk to create depth. Using different sizes will create a finished look.

    5. Be creative with tree ornaments- anything can go in a tree!
Floral wire is your friend! Attach lanterns, wrapped gifts, your favorite décor pieces to the tree with green floral wire. Large items will become a focal point and create character. These pieces can be swapped out annually to change up the look of the tree while old pieces can be used on tabletops and mantles.
Enjoy decorating and have a wonderful holiday season!
